DAY 1

GIFFONI JUNIORS 7 October, 2015

The day of the children from the Junior Category began at 9.30 a.m. with a screening of the film “Tanta Agua” by Ana Guevara and Leticia Jorge, followed by a discussion filled with many questions. The children who most actively engaged in the discussions were given awards, courtesy of our sponsor Mentos.

TANTA AGUA

Uruguay, 2013, 102’

Synopsis:

Alberto, a divorced father, takes his two children for a vacation at a thermal resort in Salto. Things don’t turn out as planned as the non-stop rain forces them to stay indoors, away from the pools and with no TV. Alberto’s efforts to entertain his children are met with indifference by Federico, his youngest son, and Lucía, his teenage daughter.

After the short break, the children had a chance to better get to know each other through Speed dating-to exchange their names, schools as well as share their interests of becoming a part of the cultural product “Giffoni”.

Through the workshop “Game of Genres” – Part I, the children were given the task to watch a short video clip from popular films and to guess their genre. Following the workshop, the children enjoyed in a Revue of Macedonian short youth films – a selection of short amateur films created by young authors from Macedonia:

DAY 2

GIFFONI JUNIORS 8 October, 2015

The day of the children from the Junior Category began at 9.30 a.m. with a screening of the film “Mirage” by Svetozar Ristovski. The youth were excited because the director of the film Svetozar Ristovski and the actor Vlado Jovanovski were today’s guests at the discussion and let the young in the secrets of the making of the film.

The children who most actively engaged in the discussions were given awards, courtesy of our sponsor Mentos.

MIRAGE

Macedonia, 2004, 107’

Director: Svetozar Ristovski

Synopsis:

The film takes place in Veles during the Republic of Macedonia’s post-independence years. It tells the story of 13-year-old Marko Trifunovski, a talented but abused Macedonian schoolboy whose harsh circumstances gradually transform him into a criminal. Two mentors offer Marko hopes of a better future, but they eventually fail him, leading to his catastrophic change. The illusory nature of these hopes is foreshadowed by the film’s epigraph, an aphorism from Friedrich Nietzsche’s Human, All Too Human: “Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torments of man“.

Following the short break, the youth took part in the following workshops:

PRIMA DANZA CHOREODRAMA (participants – max 30)

This workshop takes the participants in the fun world of dance and choreography. By learning the movements of the body and their combinations with the rhythm, the participants on this workshop will merge several choreographies from famous music films and will perform them on the closing ceremony.

STORIGAMI (participants – 30 max)

Origamis are figures made of paper crafted following traditional Japanese techniques. Combining the stories and the origami, the participants on this workshop will create their stories using this interesting paper figures.

STAGE ACTING (participants – max 30)

The stage acting is always a challenge for many young people. One can enter in this magic world in many different ways and this workshop will reveal to the participants some of them. An experienced acting crew straight out of the TV screens will teach you some of the secrets of the acting improvisations and how to create a story that will touch everyone.

GIFFONI JOURNAL ISTS (participants – max 30)

The world of events and information is getting more and more interesting and richer. Through this workshop get directly involved in reporting about the world of Giffoni. Writing texts, taking statements and pictures of the events are some of the ways your work on the Giffoni Newsletter and the Giffoni News Board will inform about the daily events on the festival.

DAY 3

The day of the children from the Junior Category began at 9.30 a.m. with a screening of the film “Black Brothers” by Xavier Koller, followed by a discussion filled with many questions. The children who most actively engaged in the discussions were given awards, courtesy of our sponsor Kapri.

THE BLACK BROTHERS

Germany, Switzerlan, 2013, 108’

Synopsis:

Switzerland, 19th century. In a remote mountain village, Giorgio, 14, leads a harsh but happy life –until the day his mother has a serious accident. The only way his father can pay the doctor is … by selling Giorgio. 40 francs is what Giorgio’s father gets from the “Man with the Scar,” who resells the boys he buys in Switzerland to prosperous chimney-sweep agents in Milan. There, Giorgio and his friend Alfredo become “spazzacamini,” forced to work in narrow, soot-filled chimneys. For the boys, it’s an exciting adventure: the big city, the secret crypt beneath a church, the pretty, but gravely ill Angeletta, his master’s daughter… Giorgio is in luck, for he is treated well by his master Battista, even though Battista’s wife and son enjoy tormenting him. But Alfredo is driven to his physical limits. To ward off attacks by street gangs like the “Wolves,” Alfredo founds the “Black Brothers” gang and makes Giorgio their first blood brother.

I GIVE YOU MY WORD 2

Russia, 2015, 99’

Director: Aleksandar Karpilovsky

Synopsis:

Russia, 1979. Best friends Dima, Misha and Lena go to summer camp at the sea. Together with them, favorite dog Sava. In the camp they are waiting for exciting adventures, treasure, duel, caves and much more. And, of course, first love with Shakespearean passions…

Following the screening, the children got the opportunity to meet and greet the producer of the film, Vladimir Esinov, who shared with them a glimpse of his experience while shooting the film and working with young actors.

The day of the children from the Junior Category began at 9.30 a.m. with a screening of the film “Antboy” by Ask Hasselbalch, followed by a discussion filled with many questions. The children who most actively engaged in the discussions were given awards, courtesy of our sponsor Triglav and Mentos.

ANTBOY

Danmark, 2013, 88’

Director: Ask Hasselbalch

Synopsis:A 12-year-old boy develops super powers after being bitten by an ant in this adolescent superhero adventure for the entire family. Convinced that he should use his newfound abilities to fight evil, young Pelle (Oscar Dietz assumes the identity of Antboy and embarks on a mission to defeat the nefarious Flea. Later, a young girl is kidnapped, and Antboy must seek the help of his best-friend Wilhelm and their brave classmate Ida in order to carry a daring rescue.

Following the screening the children began filling in the evaluation forms for the festival and its content and voted for their favorite film.

After the brief break, the children from the workshops: Prima Danza Choreodrama, Storigami, Stage Acting and Giffoni Journalists began with the final preparations of their products that they created during the past few days, in anticipation of the closing ceremony of the festival.
